Funding has been secured to support
the following curriculum development project for the 2001-2002 school
year.
Five (5) participants will develop curriculum supplements following the 2001 summer
field workshop near Bear Lake in southeastern Idaho.
Project participants will:
* Design, implement, assess, and document a workshop-derived geologic hazards curriculum supplement in your school
for the 2001-2002 school year.
Design
a supplement that challenges your students that meets and/or
exceeds specific identified national science education standards.
Implement
your design over the course of the school year, building student
discovery, investigation, and scientific knowledge.
Assess
your design using a number of alternative methods of assessment
and evaluation.
Produce a document
that reflects the methods of design, implementation, and levels of
assessment in a format that can be digitized and placed on the
website. |
* Complete a final formatted report that documents the design process of your geologic hazards curriculum supplement, its implementation, and
modes of assessment by June, 2002.
* Identify the National Science Education Standards addressed and how your
supplement meets or exceeds these standards.
* Attend informal meetings at the opening and closing of this summer’s workshop
near Bear Lake to brainstorm ideas on curriculum design and alternative
methods of assessment.
* Maintain communication with the project coordinator and other project participants via email throughout the summer and
school year.
* Communicate with the project coordinator in late August as you plan your
school year.
* Coordinate a visit with the project coordinator at your school during
implementation. This visit should be held outside of class time.
