The location of most faults were compiled on 1:500,000 maps. Although it is possible to zoom in and "see your house" in Google Earth, the accuracy of fault positions is no better than 1000 feet (250 meters). This is the width of the fault trace at about 25 miles elevation. Zooming closer than this may provide more detailed views of surface features but does not give more accurate fault locations.
