Astaris
is a 50/50 joint venture created in April 2000 combining the phosphorus businesses of FMC
Corporation and Solutia Inc. Astaris-Pocatello employs 430 people and is one of two
remaining U.S. plants producing elemental phosphorus. The plant is located in Power County
just west of Pocatello and is also located on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation.
Elemental phosphorus produced by the plant is an essential element to life and is a
critical ingredient in making an endless list of products. Its highest use is as an
additive or preservative in food products such as soft drinks, baking powder, flour,
refined sugar, cereal, jellies, and processed potatoes. It can also be found
in household cleaning products, dish washing detergent, water softeners, toothpaste,
plastics, fabrics, tires and paints.

Bannock
County was established on March 6, 1893, from a part of Bingham County. The county seat is
at Pocatello. The county was named for the Bannock Indians who were the first inhabitants
of the area.

CHUBBUCK GO VISIT Chubbuck
The City of Chubbuck, approximately 10,000 population, welcomes you to our
community. We are a progressive municipality which prides itself in a higher level of
personalized city services to it's citizenry. We are a part of a regional center for
shopping, education, medical care, and cultural activities. At 4,448 feet elevation, Chubbuck enjoys a four-season climate where clear , sunny
and dry weather is the norm. Less than 15" of precipitation falls annually. The July mean
temperature is 72.4 degrees and the average daily temperature during the winter months
is 35.4 degrees. Recreational opportunities abound in and around Chubbuck.

The
City of Pocatello is the county seat of Bannock County in southeastern Idaho, 150 miles
north of Salt Lake City, Utah (Home of the 2002 Winter Olympics) At the intersection of
highways I-15 and I-86, it is often referred to as the Gate City. It is nestled at an
elevation of 4,448 feet in the western foothills of the Rocky Mountains. With a population
of 53,074 people in the Pocatello area the city is a regional center for shopping,
education, medical care, and cultural and social activities. It is also the home of Idaho
State University. An additional 2-hour drive places you at numerous world-class resorts,
such as Sun Valley, Grand Targhee, Jackson Hole, and Park City.
